The Greeneway was full of purple shirts on Saturday morning in support of Carly Unlimited.

Carly, the daughter of Terry and Amy Prosser, is fighting epilepsy and cortical blindness.

On Saturday, the community of North Augusta came out in droves to help her family at the Carly Unlimited 5K Run/Walk.

“I'm completely overwhelmed, seeing all of this river of purple,” Amy said. “It's just amazing to see people that we know – and people that we don't know – come out to support Carly. To get to finally meet the people I'm talking to on Facebook that are praying for Carly has been amazing.”

The proceeds of the 5K went to Carly's family to assist with medical expenses from Carly's 16 hospitalizations in two years.

“Carly was diagnosed with cortical blindness at 5 months old, and at 7 months old, she started having seizures,” Amy said. “We've been back and forth to the hospital since she was 5 months old; she's been hospitalized 16 times in two years. We do have insurance, but there is that portion that insurance doesn't pay and medical equipment that isn't covered, along with the expenses of traveling back and forth to Tennessee where her epileptologist is, because she has epilepsy, as well.”

The Prosser's portion of Carly's medical expenses is nearing $500,000, Terry said.

“She had one hospital stay that (lasted) two months ..., and the hospital portion was over $200,000 just for that stay,” he said. “I'd probably say it's close to half a million right now. It's up there.”

The Carly Unlimited 5K Run/Walk had more than 200 people sign up in advance, and even more show up on Saturday to participate.

“We had 320,” Rebekah Waller, Carly Unlimited 5K Run/Walk organizer, said. “This is much more than I expected. We did online and in-person registrations, so between the two, we've had a great turnout.”

The Carly Unlimited 5K Run/Walk began at Riverview Park Activities Center at the entrance to the Greeneway.

According to Waller, this was a perfect location for people of all ages.

“It's a wonderful place for families and friends to get together,” she said. “Also, the staff at Riverview Park (Activities Center) has been wonderful; they've been absolutely fabulous. Anything we needed they have given to us; they answered all of our questions and have been readily available.”

For daily updates on Carly, Amy runs a Facebook page under the name Carly Unlimited.

“We're always posting stuff on Facebook,” she said. “I try to post on there daily updates about Carly. Our next event will be a pancake breakfast planned on May 24 at Fatz Cafe. More information on that will be available on Facebook.”
