The Aiken County Sheriff's Office is investigating an armed robbery and shooting at a gas station that occurred Tuesday night.
The incident happened about 10:50 p.m. at the Kent's Korner on Edgefield Highway, where officers and paramedics were called to the truck parking lot of the station, according to a statement from the Sheriff's Office.
"Responding deputies met with the witness who told them that he and the victim were standing next to their vehicles when they were approached by a black male with a gun, demanding whatever they had," Capt. Eric Abdullah said. "The witness told deputies that the suspect fired his weapon after the victim threw his coffee mug at him."
The suspect fled the scene before deputies arrived, Abdullah said. The victim was shot twice by the suspect and transported to Georgia Regents Medical Center.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 803-648-6811, or CrimeStoppers of the Midlands at 888-CRIME-SC (888-274-6372).
