The Aiken Department of Public Safety is investigating an armed robbery at the Huddle House on Richland Avenue this morning.
Officers were called to the scene just before 1 a.m., according to Lt. Jake Mahoney, a spokesman for Aiken Public Safety.
A middle aged black man wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans entered the restaurant and demanded money from an employee, Mahoney said. He threatened the use of a firearm but never actually presented a weapon.
The man is described as about 5-foot-10 and 200 pounds.
The suspect reportedly fled on foot after receiving an unknown amount of money. The Aiken County bloodhound tracking team responded but was unable to locate the suspect.
"Investigators are working to develop leads and determine if there is any video evidence available," Mahoney said. "At this time, there is no video for release."
Mahoney said there were customers inside the restaurant when the robbery occurred; however, no one was injured. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Crimestoppers of the Midlands at 888-CRIME-SC. Callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
