SWU named Military Friendly School
Southern Wesleyan University has another feather to add to its cap.
The school was recognized as a Military Friendly School for 2014, according to Victory Media, publisher of G.I. Jobs and the Guide to Military Friendly Schools. Jason Norton, the university’s regional director in this area, was quite pleased with the designation.
“I’m excited that SWU has received this honor,” he said. “As a university, we are honored to work with all branches of the military, their spouses and veterans to reach their educational and career goals.”
In a press release, Rich McCormack, president of Victory Media Inc., said that Southern Wesleyan passed a “stringent criteria” based on “world-class” programs and policies for student support, academic accreditation, credit policies, flexibility and other services to military personnel transitioning into civilian life.
Two Augusta schools, Georgia Regents University and Georgia Military College’s Augusta campus, also received the designation.
Norton said Southern Wesleyan has had a “strong relationship with the military” and that the university will “continue this relationship, being named a military friendly university.” He also stated that he appreciates having the opportunity to work with those who serve the country.
The North Augusta location of the university, which is at 802 East Martintown Road, Suite 101, is also gearing up for an event that will start Oct. 1. Anyone who brings an item to donate to the Golden Harvest Food Bank will have their application fee waived for any of the upcoming programs. The school is also offering those who are interested a chance to ‘test drive’ a program by visiting www.swu.edu/admissions/online-programs/.
“SWU is geared toward working adults,” Norton said. “For more than 25 years, working adults have found that SWU offers degree programs that fit their busy schedule. SWU welcomes all branches of the military and their spouses. We also work with veterans to utilize their benefits. We have a full-time veteran certifying official on staff. Also, we frequently work with the education center at Fort Gordon and attend various events on base for active military and veterans.”
