The Design Review Board will hold both a work session and public hearing on Tuesday discussing, among other things, outside paint for the new Mellow Mushroom restaurant.

The work session will be held at 5:30 p.m. in room 204 in the Municipal building, located at 214 Park Ave., and the hearing will be held in chambers at 6:30 p.m.

Mellow Mushroom, which will open at the former location of the West Side Bowery at 151 Bee Lane in The Alley, is requesting approval from the Board for repair and painting of the brick veneer with a four-color choice.

“Mellow Mushroom did receive approval for everything they presented in the Board's last hearing, aside from the paint colors,” Susan French, city planner, said.

During the last public hearing, the Board recommended approval and replacement of all storefront windows with aluminum frames and tinted glass, addition of the new painted aluminum awnings along Park Avenue, the removal of all canvas awnings, the construction of a new covered patio shelter which can be closed during inclement weather and the addition of a new, translucent resin-panel recessed entry structure with LED lighting.

In other business, the Board will look at demolition and new construction of a home located at 121 Chesterfield St. N.W. for St. John's United Methodist Church, review three tax incentive applications during the work session and applications from the Carriage House Inn during the public hearing.
