Just before Christmas break, Merriwether Elementary School’s fourth grade students went on a field trip to Augusta’s historic Imperial Theater which has been open since 1918.
Students were wowed at the beauty of this piece of history and were impressed that matinees only cost 10 cents to 20 cents at the time it originally opened. While there, not only did these fourth-graders get an opportunity to see a piece of history, they also viewed Augusta Player’s presentation of “A Christmas Carol” to explore their performing arts side all while getting into the holiday spirit.
Students were able to make comparisons of the story read in class to the musical presentation of “A Christmas Carol.” While walking out, students were trilled to be greeted with the entire cast including Scrooge, himself, for numerous high-fives from the stars.
