Merriwether Elementary has own news show

Submitted Photo Merriwether Elementary students anchor their own news show.

At 7:50 a.m. each morning, the students at Merriwether Elementary are greeted on the air by a fifth-grade “WMES” news team.

The fifth graders on the news team demonstrate awesome leadership skills as they plan and broadcast the school news each day. They announce the school lunch, birthdays, pledges, weather and important information for the day. Students from each of the fifth-grade classes apply for the positions on “WMES.”

Two news anchors, a meteorologist, a pledge leader, a sound/computer technician, a camera operator and a stage manager are on the job at 7:40 a.m. to prepare the day’s broadcast. At the end of each show the student body is encouraged to begin their day of learning as they hear the “WMES” signature sign-off line, “Together we can!”
