Tyrone Bush turned a lifelong goal into a reality when he opened Iconz Barber Studio.

Iconz Barber Studio came about from Bushs time at International Hair Care.

I worked at the previous location, International Hair Care on Atomic Road, for six-and-a-half-years, and my five-year goal was to have my own shop, he said. It took me a little longer than that, but better late than never. I always had my own image, my own ideas, my own inspiration to incorporate into my own business. Now was the perfect opportunity to put that together and present it to the community.

Bush hopes to make Iconz Barber Studio different from other barber shops by offering great customer service in a calm atmosphere.

My style is more of a personal, one-on-one type of customer service, Bush said. Some customers desire that. Whether it be with a relaxed atmosphere, or a personal way of providing a hot towel shave. People want to be in a relaxed environment where theres not a whole lot of interaction from a whole lot of barbers in the atmosphere. Ive always enjoyed working with other barbers, but I prefer to have my own tranquil environment.

Along with traditional haircuts, Iconz Barber Studio offers a range of services and education on hair care.

I present more of an education. I try to educate the client on how to care for their hair after the haircut and give more attention to detail as far as what fits their image, Bush said. Some just give a haircut, but I try to give an idea of what looks good on people. Hopefully theyre agreeable with that. Its getting very competitive in the barber industry, as far as setting yourself apart. I try to offer more services than a traditional shop does. I offer hair colorings and things of that nature. There are a lot of shops that do that, but some dont go the extra mile. I try and bring that with a good personality.

Iconz, which just had its grand opening on March 2, is still new to the community, according to Bush.

Im still relatively new, Im giving my customers a chance to transition to this new location, he said. I want to give myself an opportunity to settle in; its still pretty new to me. So far, Im enjoying it, its been great.

Haircuts at Iconz Barber Studio are $12 for adults and $10 for kids younger than 12. There is also a 20 percent discount on referrals.

Iconz Barber Studio is located at 528 Edgefield Road, Suite C-2. Its hours of operation are Tuesdays through Fridays from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.
