Submitted Photo Mrs. Parkerís fourth-grade students build circuits.

Merriwether Elementary Schoolís fourth grade students have been learning about series and parallel circuits.

Teachers believe that there is no better way to learn than hands-on when it comes to science, and students agree.

Fourth-graders used D-cell batteries, switches, bulbs, motors and wire to build their own circuits. Activities like these build upon the studentís creative and curious nature.

Safety with electricity was also discussed during this teachable moment.

Many homes were without power after the last ice storm so students could make personal connections.
