A Georgia man was arrested this week in connection with an armed robbery at the North Augusta Walmart in 2011, according to the North Augusta Department of Public Safety.

Anthony Hammond, 20, of Davis Mill Road in Hephzibah, Ga., was charged with armed robbery and placed in the Aiken County detention center, where he remained on Friday morning. A hold was also placed on him for the Georgia Department of Corrections.

The incident in which Hammond is accused of happened July 15, 2011, at the Walmart in North Augusta, according to the incident report. Hammond and a second suspect allegedly selected a soda from a cooler near the garden center checkout, then went to the back of the store for a few minutes before returning to the checkout.

The second suspect handed the cashier two $1 bills to pay for the soda, and the cashier opened the register, the report stated. The second suspect then pulled a handgun on the victim and held it against her head, saying, “Give me it.”

The same suspect is seen on camera reaching over and taking cash from the drawer, then walking around the front of the register and removing the rest of the cash, the report stated. The two suspects fled out the garden center doors and were seen heading toward Martintown Plaza. The total amount of money taken was unknown.

According to jail records, the second suspect, 20-year-old Deondre Ragland, was arrested July 24, 2011, and charged with armed robbery, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and pointing and presenting a firearm.

The jail website indicates Ragland was released on Aug. 4, 2011. He was placed in the detention center on Thursday on a hold for the Georgia Department of Corrections and on a hold for General Sessions court.
