Medac, a provider of services and products to anesthesia-related health care providers, plans to establish its company's headquarters in Aiken County.

The venture, which translates to a $12 million investment and 615 jobs, was announced Thursday afternoon.

The company intends to streamline operations of three facilities into a single, consolidated facility in North Augusta. Medac will be moving to a two-story, 60,000-square-foot building near Hammonds Ferry in North Augusta.

“We are excited that Medac has chosen North Augusta as the new location for its corporate headquarters. We stated from the beginning that our riverfront project would attract businesses to North Augusta. We hope Medac is the first of many future announcements, said North Augusta Mayor Lark Jones.

Medac Inc. began as Medical Bureau Inc., a multi-specialty billing company providing services to an array of medical fields, in 1986 by Kam Memar. He was joined by his brother Bijon in 1989. In 1992, the brothers realized the need for specialization in the anesthesiology sector, and Medac Inc. was born in Augusta with only eight employees. Today, Medac has more than 550 employees nationwide.

“We look forward to embarking on this important stage in our evolution, and we appreciate the efforts made by South Carolina, North Augusta and the Economic Development Partnership to ensure such a great space for Medac — one that will include not only a state-of-the-art facility, but ample parking, and access to a trained and stable workforce,” said Bijon Memar.

The Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits for the project.
