HARTSVILLE — A 13-month-old Hartsville child has died after being left alone in a car for several hours.

Darlington County Sheriff Wayne Bird said the child’s father was arrested on Thursday night.

Coroner Todd Hardee confirmed the child’s death. Authorities said the toddler was left in a car outside of a Hartsville business where the father worked.

The National Weather Service said temperatures in Hartsville got above 90 degrees on Thursday.

No names have been released, and an autopsy on the child was scheduled for Friday.
