Dunkin’ Donuts is coming to North Augusta.

Famous for their doughnuts, coffee and various breakfast sandwiches, the chain will set up shop in the space located within the Shell Gas Station off Exit 5. Bonjangles left the space to have its own, free-standing building next door.

North Augusta City Councilman Fletcher Dickert posted on his Facebook communications page that the shop will look to open for business in October.

“I know the owner of it owns the Dunkin’ Donuts franchise in Aiken, and he lives in North Augusta,” Dickert said. “I believe they are shooting for October 1.”

Dickert said Exit 5 has been primed and ready for growth for a long time. He said that the City waited for the economy to turn around, and that the City saw growth out toward the area.

“We have many landscaping projects in the works, and we are waiting on DOT to complete their projects out there,” he said. “Those projects will include street lights, City of North Augusta banners and our ultimate goal is to make Exit 5 look like downtown North Augusta. Exit 5 is the entrance to this community, and it hasn’t looked like that before. We are working hard to make it look like that to coincide with the opening of the new Wal-Mart, and there are a lot of businesses considering out there. We have the new Waffle House, the new Bojangles’, new McDonald’s, new Zaxby’s and there are several new businesses coming with the Wal-Mart, including a new Chinese restaurant, new Mexican restaurant and more.”

Dickert said he used to live out at Exit 5, and that there weren’t a lot of options in the past.

“I’m glad to see that part of town develop,” he said. “That’s where the growth is for the City; that and past I-20. The City is kind of landlocked in several directions, so that’s why you will see us developing in those areas.”
