Aiken County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the home of a North Augusta resident who found an old grenade buried in his or her yard on May 29.
The call came in at about 9:45 a.m., and the object was safely retrieved from the property located on Pinion Road, according to Aiken County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Eric Abdullah. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad responded to the scene to assist, and the resident was evacuated, Abdullah said.
Abdullah said every precaution was taken, and no injuries were reported.
Abdullah said calls from residents regarding the discovery of unusual items in their yards isn’t too peculiar, especially in established neighborhoods.
