North Augusta police need the public’s help in identifying a man who reportedly stole about $3,000 by using counterfeit checks.

The man used a lost ATM or debit card to deposit counterfeit checks into the victim’s account and then withdrew the money back out, officials said.

The victim’s card was used in North Augusta and in Richmond County. Investigators said the suspect may be driving a white Pontiac that was seen in surveillance photos released on May 30.

Anyone with information about this crime or the location of the suspects is asked to call CrimeStoppers of the Midlands at 888-CRIME-SC. Callers will remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
