An 80-year-old woman’s wedding rings were ripped from her fingers during an incident that occurred in a parking lot last week.
According to a report from the Aiken Department of Public Safety, the woman was in the GNC parking lot located off of Richland Avenue on Thursday at about 3:15 p.m. when another woman approached her. The victim initially thought that the woman wanted a ride. The woman commented on the victim’s rings, then grabbed her hand and pulled them off her finger. She then fled the scene on foot.
The victim told police that she didn’t report the incident until Friday because her husband was in the hospital.
The piece of jewelry that was stolen is described as a yellow gold engagement ring with a half carat solitaire diamond fused to a yellow gold wedding band with several smaller diamonds.
