Aiken County is not under a heat advisory today, but the heat index values in the area are expected to reach triple digits.
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for much of eastern South Carolina: Allendale, Berkeley, Colleton, Charleston, Dorchester, Florence, Georgetown, Hampton, Horry, Jasper, Marion and Williamsburg counties.
The warning is in effect from midday until early evening.
The National Weather Service reported heat index values as high as 110 degrees are possible because of temperatures in the mid- to upper-90s and high humidity.
In Aiken County, the heat index could reach 100 degrees.
Those who must be outdoors today are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids, wear light-weight clothing and stay out of direct sunlight.
