ANDERSON (AP) — A former security officer at an Anderson hospital has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for murdering his estranged wife.
Solicitor Chrissy Adams says Robert John Hurl pleaded guilty Thursday to murder, attempted murder and unlawful conduct toward a child. Prosecutors say he killed 42-year-old Brenda Hurl at his home near Iva in July 2013 after she came to pick up their 10-year-old son. Brenda Hurl was shot multiple times in the head.
Prosecutors say Robert Hurl also shot a friend who tried to intervene. James Jones survived the shooting after surgery. Hurl also shot at Jones’ girlfriend, but she was uninjured.
Adams says no child should have to endure the emotional trauma Hurl inflicted on his own child.
