The report of a missing domesticated mountain lion from Aquarium Pets on Richland Avenue West has been determined to be false, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety.
Aiken Public Safety stated in a press release that investigators have found that the entire story was fabricated. The report was made Sunday afternoon by someone claiming that a declawed mountain lion weighing approximately 100 pounds, standing about three feet tall and last seen wearing a dog harness was missing.
“At this time there is no indication as to why the original complainant fabricated the story,” the release read. “The search for the missing mountain lion has now turned into a criminal investigation pertaining to the filing of a false police report.”
The Aiken Standard will have more on this story in its Monday edition.
