The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a suspicious fire at a home in Graniteville on Saturday.
The fire was reported at about 11:45 a.m. Saturday at a home on Williams Street, according to a sheriff’s report. The victims said they saw smoke coming from the home. A neighbor reportedly called the victims to tell them about the fire, but they were unsure which neighbor called them.
Officers located an area in the bedroom where they believe the fire started, due to heavy black soot on the walls, a hole in the roof from the fire and other pieces of furniture being burnt, police said. Investigators have not determined the cause of the fire.
The report did not indicate the extent of damage to the home.
