I would like to say that I whole heartedly support the additional penny sales tax that will be on the ballot this November. Thank you to Rob Novit for writing the article in the Aiken Standard about the steering committee and thank you very much to Diana Floyd, Tom Williams and Will Williams for speaking out.
I have two daughters who attended Schofield and who graduated from Aiken High School some twenty years ago. My wife, Charlene, and I feel like they got a really solid education but the facilities, even in the 1990s, were well below par. I have heard from friends in the real estate market and also from the manufacturing sector that families who open new companies or take jobs in our workforce here in Aiken County head straight for Lexington or Columbia counties to live after seeing the condition of our public school facilities.
I visit Aiken High on occasion and can attest to trying to get to the back of their campus after a rain requires a boat. Thank you again for the nice article in the Aiken Standard on Aug. 7. One cent makes sense.
