MOUNT PLEASANT (AP) — Authorities said two people have died in the crash of a small plane at an airport in Mount Pleasant.
Charlene Gunnells of the Charleston County Aviation Authority said the crash happened about 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Mount Pleasant Regional Airport east of Charleston.
The names of the victims were not immediately released.
Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen in Atlanta said the single-engine Cessna 150 was taking off at the time of the accident. The plane crashed about 200 yards from the end of the runway in a swampy area.
Bergen said the FAA is investigating and the National Transportation Safety Board will determine the probable cause.
