On Sept. 22 at the Reserve Club at Woodside Plantation, players in the Mended Hearts Chapter 294 annual golf tournament will tee off.
The tournament, a four-person captain’s choice with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start, is one of the oldest in the Aiken area, according to Mended Hearts. The tournament, with Aiken Regional Medical Centers as a co-sponsor, began in 2002.
Reservations for the 34 four-person teams are now being accepted. The tournament will include teams for men and women.
The cost is $240 per team.
Each player will receive a round of golf with cart, range balls and prizes for the lowest score, nearest to the hole and several other categories of achievement. Lunch will be served to all the golfers.
Over the years, the tournament has raised more than $100,000, which has been contributed to several community cardiac enhancement agencies who then purchase educational and life-saving equipment such as mannequins and other tools needed to help train student nurses.
Funds from the tournament were also used to supply Aiken County ambulances with rapid communication equipment for transmittal of EKG readings for immediate diagnostic use, defibrillators for use in patrol cars, cardiac rehab equipment for the Wellness Center at USC Aiken and to many other organizations that benefit citizens who have heart-related health problems.
The registration deadline is Sept. 17.
