The rear end tires of an 18-wheeler filled with fuel burst into flames, causing the closure of Old 96 Indian Trail for several hours Tuesday morning.

No injuries or property damage were reported in the fire that was reported at about 9 a.m. The Wagener Fire Department quickly responded, put out the flames and waited until the tank cooled off.

The fuel tanker was said to be full at the time of the fire, according to dispatch.

According to Aiken County Sheriff Office Capt. Eric Abdullah, the truck was traveling down Highway 39 toward Wagener when the fire started near Danley Avenue. At this time, it appears that hot brakes caused the fire, Abdullah said.
