BURLINGTON, Iowa (AP) — Burlington Hawk Eye sports writer Susan Denk has died of an apparent heart attack at age 39.
Denk’s death was confirmed by Hawkeye Sports Editor John Bohnenkamp.
The newspaper reported that Denk died early Monday at her sister’s home in suburban Chicago after suffering a heart attack.
Denk had worked for the Hawkeye since 1999. She was the paper’s beat reporter for Iowa football, and she also covered Southeastern Community College basketball and the Burlington Bees, a minor-league baseball team.
Denk graduated from the University of Wisconsin and was a volunteer at the Des Moines County Humane Society.
