The City of Aiken has canceled the annual Labor Day BBQ Cook-Off due to a lack of registered grilling teams.
The seventh annual barbecue competition was to be held on Monday at the Newberry Street Festival Center in downtown Aiken. The annual event was held to kick-off the United Way's annual campaign from the end of August to the end of October.
Instead of the barbecue competition, the City of Aiken will host an “Our Aiken” photo contest, according to City of Aiken's Special Projects Coordinator Emory Langston.
“We're doing a photo contest instead, and this is something we're really excited about,” Langston said. “The ‘Our Aiken' photo contest is a way to encourage people to submit a photo of what Aiken means to them. It's still a fundraiser for the United Way campaign.”
Details about the photo contest will be available soon the City of Aiken's website, www.cityofaikensc.gov.
