A Clearwater woman was robbed of her cellphone as she put her child into the car on Wednesday, according to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident happened at about 1 p.m. in a parking lot on Jefferson Davis Highway in Beech Island, according to a sheriff’s report. The 30-year-old victim said she was securing her child in the vehicle when an unknown man approached her and grabbed her phone from the roof of the vehicle.
When the victim turned around to grab her phone, the suspect grabbed her arm and “forcefully squeezed” before fleeing the scene on foot, police said. The victim said she did not get a good look at the suspect because it happened so fast.
Using a “Find My iPhone” app on a friend’s device, the victim was able to locate her cellphone, which had a broken screen and was no longer functional, police said.
