Blythewood knocked off Aiken (4-2) by scores of 26-24, 25-18, 21-25 on Thursday.

Hornet head coach Malynda Young said her team may have been out-matched by the bigger school – Blythewood is a solid Class AAAA squad while Aiken plays at Class AAA – but felt the match would help Aiken in the long run.

“They’re kind of loaded this year,” Young said.

Carly Bland led the Hornets with 11 kills and also added six digs, while Abi Stewart had seven kills and Alyssa Frazier had five with a team-high five blocks. Taylor Mabry led the team with 15 digs, as Maggie West added 11 with 25 assists. Hannah Mitchell had 10 digs, and eighth-grader Chloe Neeley picked up a block.
