AUGUSTA — The Augusta GreenJackets (61-75) couldn’t overcome a three-run second inning and lost 4-2 to the Charleston RiverDogs at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
Steven Messner (7-5) walked the first two batters in the second inning and then hit the third to load the bases before throwing a wild pitch that plated one run. Two more scored on a throwing error as the RiverDogs got all three runs without notching a hit in the frame.
Jonathan Padilla (1-0) pitched four innings of relief for the win, and Eric Ruth recorded his seventh save.
