Wal-Mart on Knox Avenue in North Augusta is now home to a new Care Clinic, one of only seven in the country.
The clinic, which is located beside the Wal-Mart Vision Center in the front of the store, is open seven days a week and provides primary care.
“We’re so proud and excited for the grand opening of the Wal-Mart Care Clinic,” said, Curtis Screen, Wal-Mart manager. “ ... It’s going to provide affordable health care options for our associates as well as our shoppers in the local North Augusta community.”
According to Screen, the Wal-Mart Care Clinic will provide care for anything from diabetes to health screening.
Ken Sasse, division manager of Health and Wellness for Wal-Mart, called the clinic a great opportunity for Wal-Mart employees and the community.
“We’ve been focused on helping our associates and customers live healthier lives,” he said. “With opening this clinic, we have a unique opportunity to drive down health-care costs for more than 1 billion Wal-Mart associates and their families. It’s an incredible opportunity to help take care of our associates and customers nationwide, because this clinic gives them access to quality and affordable health care. For customers, office visits are only $40, which is very affordable and accessible in the store.”
In the clinic, there will be two nurse practitioners, Laurie Gerhard and Angela Dykes, who will man the center on a daily basis. The clinic features a lab and three examination rooms.
“I see the patients and interact with the people who come into the clinic,” Gerhard said. “I’m excited to give good, quality care at a low price, and we have a lot of uninsured people who can afford this care. We can see them here, and we partner with Wal-Mart to offer $4 medication. People can get treatment and medication and possibly get out for less than $100.”
The Wal-Mart Care Clinic is open Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
For more information on the clinic, call 803-426-5087 or visit the store at 1201 Knox Ave.
