For those looking for new cooking ideas and tips, two culinary experts are teaming up to help.

On Sept. 20, The Willcox Hotel will host Southern Living Test Kitchen on the Road. The event will have two sessions: Sunday Suppers at noon and Great Grilling at 5 p.m. Each session costs $35.

Those who attend the Sunday Suppers session will be treated to a light lunch and drink. It will occur in The Restaurant at The Willcox.

Students of the Great Grilling session will received “Southern bites” and a drink. It will take place by the pool.

Leading the discussions are Chef Robby Melvin, Southern Living’s test kitchen director, and Regan Browell, The Willcox’s executive chef.

Melvin of Birmingham has worked in numerous fine restaurants and owned a catering business.

Southern Living’s Test Kitchen professionals ... create, test and perfect over 5,000 recipes annually (for the magazine),” as stated in a release.

Browell of New Zealand has worked in fine restaurants in California and England. “(Upon) returning to New Zealand, Browell worked for Geoff and Shannon Ellis (The Willcox then-future owners). There she ran the kitchens in the couple’s two restaurants, Rain and Nextdoor, before following them to The Restaurant at The Willcox in 2009,” according to a release.

Together, Melvin and Browell will “demonstrate recipes, share ideas and tips and interact with guests” in kitchens setup to “mirror” your own, the release said.

Representatives from the gourmet kitchen store Plum Pudding and the floral and event studio Cote Designs are scheduled to join Melvin and Browell.

“We’re very excited about this event and the opportunities we have to work with local companies in partnership with Southern Living,” Shannon Ellis said.
