Linda DeVaughn

Linda DeVaugn's painting of her father, Rev. William Axley, titled "The Christmas Story."

Linda DeVaughn is the North Augusta Artists Guild's Artist of the Month.

Linda retired from the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University in 2015. After working 36 years in a business administrative career, she is now able to pursue a “new passion” with her paint brush. This is a new season in life to cultivate a “new seed” God planted in her heart to paint with oils. Like most artists, Linda creates from a place of passion, connection and expression.

The above oil painting is a portrait of her father, Rev. William Axley. Both her father and mother served faithfully in ministry for over 35 years. Her mother was blessed with a beautiful voice and served as choir director. Linda learned to love and appreciate music at a very early age. She is thankful for her precious Godly parents who instilled in her what is the length, width, height and depth of God’s love (Ephesians 3:17-18). Both of her grandparents along with many other relatives dedicated their lives to ministry. With this rich, deep, spiritual family tree, it is no surprise that Linda would have a desire to use the canvas as a "voice" to share God’s great love and goodness inspired by music and scriptures. A "voice" to provoke deep thought and devotion. Paintings that effectively use light, color and composition to create special moods and emotions.

Linda feels most fortunate to have as an art mentor Matt Tommey from Asheville, North Carolina. She is a member of his “Created to Thrive Mentoring Group” and highly recommends his books, “Created to Thrive” and “Unlocking the Heart of an Artist.” This creative process is teaching Linda how God plants seeds of divine inspiration inside the hearts of artisans that can be expressed and shared with others.

Linda is currently working on a series of spiritual paintings inspired by God’s beautiful creation, scriptures, spiritual songs and life experiences. In this series, she is using the “tambourine” as a “symbolic” representation of the moving, shaking and vibration of the Holy Spirit that brings revelation and transformation to our lives. Artists are trained to look closely at details of what we see in the natural world around us with our “natural” eye. What an amazing way God reveals himself to us all through his great creation. The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. His voice that speaks day and night to the end of the world without using “words” (Psalms 19).

Linda is grateful to have a wonderful husband like Nathan, who provides tremendous support and encouragement. Their travels across the country visiting national parks, forests, art galleries and museums has been a great inspiration. She is thankful for the patience of her husband on these trips as he often waited for her to take many photos of potential art subjects. Linda has also been blessed with three wonderful children and six amazing grandchildren who inspire and encourage her.

She enjoys being a member of the North Augusta Artists Guild where you find artisans who willingly share their expertise and provide support and guidance.
