Martintown Road Chapter, NSDAR, members celebrate with an end-of-year luncheon at the Pinnacle Club.

The 2017 and 2018 year was a busy one for the Martintown Road Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.

Chapter members collected 450 box tops and UPC labels sent to Tamassee DAR School, Tamassee, SC, for purchasing textbooks and other educational materials. The chapter also sent $810 in Walmart gift cards to the school as Christmas gifts for the resident students.

Chapter members signed and mailed 125 Christmas cards to active duty service members and delivered Christmas gifts to veterans at the Augusta VA Hospital.

The chapter sent $770 to DAR Project Patriot. Support is focused on two groups: women serving in the military and wounded military personnel at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Landstuhl, Germany; the Warrior Transition Brigade at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Bethesda, MD; and the Warrior and Family Support Center, San Antonio, TX.

A total of 8,431 manufacturers coupons were clipped, collected, and mailed by chapter members to support Coupons for Our Troops. Non-perishable Grab and Go Snacks were taken quarterly to North Augusta Department of Public Safety officers.

Chapter members logged over 1,400 community service hours in the Service to America program.

The end of the school year saw the following seniors presented with the DAR ROTC award and medal: Cadet Valeria Pineda – North Augusta High School; Cadet Kelsey Proctor – Midland Valley High School; and Cadet Reyna Schadler - Silver Bluff High School.

At the May luncheon held at the Pinnacle Club, Mary Freeland was welcomed as a new member. Ten-year membership anniversary certificates were presented to Martha Claire Farmer, Sabri Jenison, Karen Lesko, Kay Murphree, and Tallulah Trimmier; 25 years- Betty Goodwin and Katie Johnston; 30 years – Angela Burkhalter and Janet Geckeler.

The 2018-20 officers installed were Susan Robbins, Regent; Pam Schmidt, Vice-Regent; Shirley Wilmoth, Recording and Corresponding Secretary; Terry Jenkins, Treasurer; Lawren Hammond, Registrar; Suzanne Shimp, Chaplain; Karen Catchings, Historian; and Mildred Miller, Librarian.
