One of Aiken County's most prominent Memorial Day traditions is to be observed at 11 a.m. Monday, with American Legion Post 71 holding its annual ceremony.

The 11 a.m. assembly is to be held at Post 71's headquarters, at 333 East Spring Grove Avenue, near North Augusta Elementary School. The annual event is normally held at Wade Hampton Veterans Park, but the location was changed due to concerns about Monday's forecast of extreme heat.

This year's featured speaker is to be Don Clark, deputy director of ForcesUnited (the former Augusta Warrior Project). Clark's organization, on an annual basis, helps hundreds of veterans with such concerns as enrolling in education, finding stable housing, receiving government benefits and getting a job.

In keeping with tradition, the Naval Junior ROTC unit from North Augusta High school will perform.
