This week will offer local football fans a chance for a quick peek at what the fall may bring, as North Augusta and Fox Creek high schools both hold a "spring game," bringing an end to spring practice.

Fox Creek's game is Thursday at 6 p.m. and North Augusta's game is Friday at 6 p.m. Both games are set at their respective schools.

Brian Thomas, returning for his sixth season as North Augusta's head coach, said May's time on the field is particularly valuable in helping coaches "evaluate some of the younger kids." The older players, he confirmed, are already familiar to the coaches.

LaFayette Stewart, preparing for his first season as Fox Creek's coach, said several vendors will be on hand for the Predators' exhibition, for a combination of "family, fun, food and football," with a disc jockey setting the event to music.

Fox Creek's 2018 campaign started with three straight wins and then had a six-game skid. The Predators wound up 4-6 overall, with no wins in Region 2-AA.

The Yellow Jackets went 10-3, securing the Region 5-AAAA title and winning their first two playoff games in blowout style before losing in a third-round blowout.
