The driver of the vehicle in a crash that killed a North Augusta bicyclist has been identified and is being charged with driving too fast for conditions, according to the North Augusta Department of Public Safety.

Kayla Marie Black, 26, of Aiken was the driver of the vehicle that struck and killed bicyclist George Batten, 74, on Monday, May 27, according to a report released by NADPS.

The report states the accident happened at approximately 7:09 a.m. on Bergen Road traveling toward Five Notch Road.

She stated, according to the report, that as she came up the hill, the sun was in her eyes and she heard a bang. She pulled over to find she had hit a bicyclist, ran to check on the victim and believed him to already be deceased "as she was unable to locate a pulse," the report says.

The bicycle, helmet, air pump and a water bottle were collected and entered into evidence, the report states.
