The City of North Augusta will cut the ribbon and officially open the new amphitheater at Riverside Village at 4 p.m. Friday at 1001 Center Street. Finishing touches are being taken care of this week as we prepare to present this awesome new venue for our community residents and guests. Mayor Bob Pettit and North Augusta City Council representatives will be on hand along with special guests from our design team from Alfred Benesch & Company and our general contractor, R.D. Brown Contractors. The public is invited to attend the ceremonies and stick around to enjoy the amenities of Riverside Village and the amphitheater. Southbound Smokehouse restaurant will be hosting the Kenny George Band at 7 p.m. on Friday night as part of the opening celebration.

The amphitheater project was originally scheduled to be finished and opened on May 15 but COVID-19 presented issues for completing the project and allowing for a public opening ceremony. The North Augusta Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department in conjunction with Friends with Benefits had planned a national recording artist to christen the new amphitheater but that had to be shelved for a later date to be determined thanks to COVID-19. The City of North Augusta is still following the S.C. DHEC guidelines, CDC guidelines and the governor’s recommendations for hosting outdoor concerts in venues like the amphitheater. These guidelines do not currently allow us to host an event in the facility. We are certainly hopeful that in the near future we will be able to announce events for the amphitheater.

Adventure Camp 2020 is in its third week at the North Augusta Community Center with 27 campers in attendance this week. There are still six more consecutive weeks remaining for rising first graders through sixth graders to enroll, each session is $100 per week with the daily sessions running from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Early drop-off at 8 a.m. is available as well as late pickup at 6 p.m. Camp registrations are accepted online at www.northaugusta.net and at the front counter of the Riverview Park Activities Center.
