I hope everyone is enjoying a great July 4th holiday week and celebrating the freedoms we are blessed to have in this country. We hope you have noticed the new American flag banners with North Augusta on the bottom that have been placed in our downtown area. The banners are a tribute to the men and women who serve, and have served, our country and to the community we live in: North Augusta, South Carolina, USA!

The Riverview Park Splash Pad construction is gaining momentum as we look to a potential middle-of-July opening date. The splash pad surface has been completed and sports the green and beige colors of a football field and baseball diamond. Great Southern Recreation will be installing the water features in the next two weeks. Get ready for a grand opening in the month of July.

The 2019 Nike Peach Jam rolls into town next week, and our staff is busy making final preparations for this year’s event. A star-studded cast of talent will begin arriving in town as early as Monday evening as the Nike EYBL teams chase the coveted prize of Peach Jam Champions. July 11-14 will be the only live period in the month of July that college coaches are allowed to evaluate players this year. Look for a record crowd of college coaches in town.

Once again this year it is necessary for us to close the exercise room in the basement beginning Monday, July 8, as we will be moving our strength training equipment to increase the dining area needed to feed all the players during the tournament. The Riverview Park members will have a window of 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10, through Friday, July 12, to use the track and cardio room. Members may access the cardio room throughout the day, but the building will be very busy and parking will be hard to come by. All gyms will be closed beginning Friday, July 5, through Sunday, July 14. We will resume normal operations on Monday, July 15, and plan to have the exercise room back open by Monday evening.

The Nike Peach Jam will be a great week for economic impact as our area, our hotels, restaurants, gas stations and area stores will welcome the traffic during the heat of the summer when many of our residents are traveling out of town on vacation.

Stay tuned for more Peach Jam updates in next week’s edition.
