The city of North Augusta passed an ordinance on Monday, June 3 to exercise an option to exchange the 181 acres of Murrah Road/Five Notch Road property for the North Augusta Country Club property of approximately 148 acres. North Augusta Mayor, City Council and staff have determined that the North Augusta Country Club property is in a much better geographical location to address the recreational needs of the community.

There has been lots of conversation and excitement over the North Augusta Country Club property and lots of questions about what the city of North Augusta has planned for this property. Will the city do something with the swimming pool or try to do something golf-related? Will the city build new athletic fields, playgrounds, picnic shelters or create a passive park? We don’t know the answer to these questions yet but we will be working toward finding them. The city of North Augusta will do its due diligence to develop a plan that bests serves the needs of our community. It will not happen overnight, as the property will require new funding and staff considerations. But, the future of a new regional park for the residents of North Augusta is exciting. We are thrilled that so many people are sharing their ideas; it only reinforces the value of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism in the City of North Augusta.

Week one of summer camp saw over 129 campers participating in the first ever Camp Yellow Jacket, a great start to our summer camp series. Week two of summer camps at Riverview Park has broken the 200-participant number. Adventure Camp week No. 1 has 38 campers and cross training, basketball, cheerleading and soccer have over 170 campers.

Next week’s summer camp at Riverview Park is the always-popular Detective Week at Adventure Camp. Campers will have the opportunity to work with a detective from the Department of Public Safety in trying to solve an Adventure Park crime. Sign your young detective up today at the Riverview Park Activities Center.
