North Augusta City Council passed a resolution Monday evening that allows the Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department to award a contract to Wilson Sports Turf out of Lexington to restore Hammonds Ferry Soccer Field. Hammonds Ferry Soccer Field is located next to the water treatment plant and across the street from the Hammonds Ferry Soccer Complex. The soccer field had been used as a laydown for the construction of the new water reservoir and expansion of the water treatment plant. City of North Augusta Streets and Drains crew took care of the sub-grade work on the field saving the city approximately $30,000. City of North Augusta Public Services crew is currently removing the old wooden light poles and light fixtures at a cost savings of $10,000. Wilson Sports Turf will take care of the installation of an automatic sports field irrigation system, installation of perimeter subsurface drainage, addition and blending of 4 inches of golf course sand to existing soil, installation of Certified Tiftuff Bermuda grass sprigs, a 10-week grow-in fertilization program and monitoring irrigation to achieve full coverage and optimum playability in time for the fall season. Hammonds Ferry Soccer field will be a much-welcomed addition for our youth soccer program and adult sports.
