It’s not too early to start planning for the summer as we enter the month of May. The North Augusta Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Department will be hosting a variety of camps this summer. Summer 2019 camps kick off this year the week of June 3-6 with a brand new concept called Camp NA Yellow Jacket for ages 5-12. Camp NA Yellow Jacket will be held in the evenings from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Riverview Park and North Augusta High School and will offer camp options for art, band, baseball, business technology, cheerleading, culinary, football, robotics, science, soccer, softball, tennis, track, volleyball and wrestling. The cost of Camp NA Yellow Jacket is $40 with all registration taking place at the Riverview Park Activities Center or online at northaugusta.net. There will be nightly refreshments, tours of the North Augusta High School campus and will conclude on Thursday, June 6 with an outdoor movie night on the North Augusta High School football field.

The ever-popular Adventure Camp weekly sessions begin at the Riverview Park Activities Center on Monday, June 10, with weekly sessions taking place June 10-14, June 17-21, June 24-28, July 22-26 and July 29-August 2. Adventure Camp features big group games, small group games, arts and crafts, slip and slide, field trips, talent shows, tie dye shirts and much more. Adventure camp is open to rising first graders through rising sixth graders.

Cross Training Camp for boys and girls ages 6-12 will be held at Riverview Park the week of June 10-14 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at a cost of $50. Campers will have the options of basketball, soccer or cheerleading. The Antonio Grant Basketball Camp for boys and girls ages 6-15 will be held in the Activities Center from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. at a cost of $125. The Pat Carpenter Cheer and Basketball Camp is scheduled for August 5-8 at the Activities Center from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at a cost of $100. The Challenger International Soccer Camp is scheduled for Riverview Park August 5-9. One hour sessions are available from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. for 3-5 year olds for $96. The half-day program is available for 6-16 year olds from 9:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. for $139 and the full-day program is available for 7-16 year olds from 9:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. for $190.

A busy weekend is coming up for the Parks, Recreation, & Tourism Department as the Riverview Park Activities Center will play host to the Garden City Travel Basketball tournament and USSSA travel baseball in the park. Last weekend’s Southern Exposure travel basketball event recorded 10,879 people through the front doors of the Activities Center Friday through Sunday. Attendance for the month of April in the Activities Center has already surpassed the 26,000 mark in spite of spring break/Masters Week.

Reminder that the City of North Augusta celebration banquet for the North Augusta High School Girls Basketball state championship team will be held Tuesday, May 14, 7 p.m. at the Palmetto Terrace ballroom in the Municipal Center. Tickets for the public are on sale at the Riverview Park Activities Center and the Municipal Center for $15. The banquet includes dinner and our keynote speaker, Coach Geno Auriemma, University of Connecticut women’s basketball coach.
