Summer 2019 has been a great season for the North Augusta Parks, Recreation, & Tourism Department. Adventure Camp served 187 youngsters over five weeks that were rising first- through sixth-graders. We had an additional 436 kids in the different sports camps and Camp Yellow Jacket. Riverview Park played host to the South Carolina ASA Recreation Girls Fast-Pitch District tournament, South Carolina USSSA Travel baseball tournaments, Top Gun travel baseball tournaments, USTA Tennis tournaments and the 2019 Nike Peach Jam basketball tournament. Riverview Park also was the venue for the 15-team Men’s Adult Softball League. The Riverview Park Activities Center through the month of July has had 257,371 people come through the front door. The Activities Center should easily clear the 400,000 mark for the 2019 year.

In addition to all the organized activities in the park, we have also seen our share of ultimate frisbee pick-up games, disc golf participants, adult soccer pick-up games, outdoor volleyball games, high school football players putting in extra time preparing for the upcoming season and moms, dads and grandparents playing with their children on the adaptive playground. Summerfield Park continues to be a very popular venue for the public during the summer months. Summerfield Park’s two picnic shelters and the splash pad are in high demand. Where else can you ride a bike or take a walk on a hot summer day and find shade but on the North Augusta Greeneway?

Summer 2019 also brought us the Riverview Park splash pad and the resurfacing of the North Augusta Greeneway from the Municipal Center to the Riverview Park Activities Center. More projects for the PRT Department are on deck so stay tuned for coming announcements.

As summer fades away and our children return to school, it’s time to focus on the fall sports leagues and activities that are in front of us. Registration for fall sports is in progress and planning for the 35th annual Jack-O-Lantern Jubilee on October 25-26 continues. Get ready for a great fall in the city of North Augusta!
