Bicyclists and pedestrians may notice smoother traveling this month on one of the CSRA's most popular features, with the Greeneway having undergone resurfacing in several areas.

The Greeneway, listed as having been "established" in 1995, got some of its mileage smoothed out during the past several weeks, including territory between Hammond's Ferry Road and Riverview Park.

Work focused on new asphalt, shoulder repair and fresh striping. Also addressed, a few weeks later, was the section between Hammond's Ferry Road and Center Street.

The Greeneway, described in a promotional brochure as "North Augusta's most popular recreational amenity," is named for Tom Greene, one of North Augusta's former mayors, who now lives in Charlotte. His tenure (1985-97) included the purchase, in 1988, of acres of railroad right-of-way.
