Paul Knox Middle School has a firm grip on bragging rights in local basketball so far this season in the wake of a Jan. 9 competition versus North Augusta on the Patriots' home court.
The girls' game went 40-31 in Paul Knox's favor, as Mikayla Jones scored 15 points to help boost Paul Knox to a 5-2 overall record. North Augusta, led by Madison Holmes' nine-point performance, dropped to 2-6.

Paul Knox and North Augusta middle schools clashed in basketball Jan. 9 on the Patriots' court, and Paul Knox prevailed in both contests. The scores were 40-31 for the girls (leaving Paul Knox at 5-2 and North Augusta at 2-6) and 33-28 for the boys (Paul Knox, 6-1; North Augusta, 5-2). The rivals are to meet again Jan. 27, also at Paul Knox, to wrap up the regular season.
The boys' contest was closer, winding up a 33-28 Patriot win, as the Patriots sealed the deal by outscoring the Yellow Jackets 11-4 in the fourth quarter. Paul Knox, coached by Daniel Sura-Villalta, trailed at the half, 10-5, but wound up getting a 10-point performance from Noah Wyatt to improve to a 6-1 record. North Augusta, coached by Antonio Gary and led in scoring by Connor Cannon, with 11 points, slipped to 5-2.
The rivals are to meet again Jan. 27, also on Paul Knox's home court. Games to determine the county championship are to be held in the first week of February, with the title game set for Feb. 7.
