The North Augusta Chamber of Commerce held its annual "State of Our Community" event May 9 at North Augusta High School, providing an overview of the past several months' ups and downs, and also some perspectives on what the next few years are likely to bring, as seen by top leaders of the municipal and county government, Aiken County's school system and Fort Gordon. The event also included the a celebration of historian Milledge Murray as the new "Citizen of the Year." The annual award "recognizes an individual with outstanding leadership and citizenship in the community, while demonstrating exemplary vision, civic pride and commitment to the betterment of society."
