Victory Baptist Church celebrated a milestone at its Sept. 8 worship service, expressing thanks for (and to) the Rev. Larry Brown, the congregation's founding pastor, and also installing the new pastor, the Rev. C.T. Townsend. A theme for the day was "keep digging" (drawn from Genesis 26:18), with regard to calling on tried and true resources from an earlier generation. Brown established the congregation in 1975, with nine members, and the membership roll is now above 2,400. Townsend, a native of West Virginia, is a longtime associate of Victory, having Brown among his spiritual mentors from years ago.
