The disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray. In response to this practical question, he gave them words that we call the Lord’s Prayer. This daily prayer instructs us to honor God, seek His will and pray for necessities. We also receive the requirement to ask for forgiveness of our sins. A person who sincerely offers this prayer acknowledges a personal need for forgiveness. This rises above form or ritual and places honesty and humility in plain view. What a refreshing gift God has provided. “Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us” (Luke 11:4).
