While sensing the tension of a political discussion on television, something struck me as humorous and I found myself laughing. I began to relax and even had a more hopeful attitude when this occurred. Obviously, not everything is funny, and healthy individuals experience a full range of emotions. Sometimes, weeping may serve as our best response to an event. I find comfort, however, in the words of Maya Angelou: "Laugh as much as possible, always laugh. It's the sweetest thing one can do for oneself and one's fellow human beings." There is “a time to weep and a time to laugh” (Ecclesiastes 3:4a).
