"The worst evils of life are those which do not exist except in our imagination.” These words written by Charles Spurgeon over a century ago still have the ring of truth. Fear does bring unnecessary pain and anguish into our lives. Fear is not always harmful, however, especially when it marshals our energies enabling us to avoid dangerous situations. Most significantly, only God, through his grace and forgiveness, takes away our ultimate fear of death and eternity. This is his promise. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear; but of power and of love and a sound mind” (II Timothy 1:7).
