The account of Peter’s three denials have captured the imagination of readers over the centuries. He first denied his connection with Jesus to a young lady. Next, standing by the fire, he strongly denied his role as a disciple. Finally, he denied that he had been in the garden when Jesus was arrested. His fear took precedence over truth and loyalty and paralyzed this brash leader. Several days later, Jesus found heartbroken Peter fishing and asked him three times if he loved him. Love brought him a second chance. “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You” (John 21:17b).
